Sachin Tendulkar's Nomination to Rajya Sabha

Sachin Tendulkar was nominated to the Rajya Sabha which was prosed by the President of India and in April 2012  Tendulkar accepted the Rajya Sabha nomination. Sachin Tendulkar became the first active sportsperson and cricketer to have been nominated. A few former cricketers were surprised on hearing this and did not shy from expressing it. 
On 2nd May, Sachin Tendulkar was elected to seat number 103 in the Rajya Sabha and took the oath on 4 June. Sachin refused to take the bungalow allotted to him in New Delhi stating it as "waste of tax payer's money". Sachin continues to reside in Mumbai.

Social work

Sachin Tendulkar has not limited his greatness to cricket alone. He has also shown the path of kindness and care to be the greatest of virtues that anyone could practice. Tendulkar sponsors 200 underprivileged children every year through Apnalaya, a Mumbai-based NGO associated with his mother-in-law, Annabel Mehta.
Sachin has crusaded for Cancer foundation against cancer. It was not a surprise when Sachin's Tweet raised  10.25 million for the foundation. Sachin Tendulkar spent nine hours on the 12-hour Coca-Cola-NDTV Support My School telethon on 18 September 2011 that helped raise  7 crore –  20 million more than the target – for from the creation of basic facilities, particularly toilets for girl students, in 140 government schools across the country.  

Retirement

Sheer love for the game coupled with hard work and determination kept the "God of cricket" going for over 2 decades, but age catches up with everyone, no one can outlive nature, hence following poor performance in the 2012 series against England, Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from One Day Internationals on 23 December 2012, however he mentioned that he will be available for Test cricket. It was something that most people hoped not to happen and Anil Kumble said it would be "tough to see an Indian (ODI) team list without Tendulkar's name in it", and Javagal Srinath mentioned that Tendulkar "changed the way ODIs were played right from the time he opened in New Zealand in 1994". Former Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly even mentioned that Sachin could have  played the up-coming series against Pakistan.
After playing his lone Twenty 20 International in 2006 against South Africa, Sachin Tendulkar announced that he would not play T20 Internationals any more. Later he announced his retirement from IPL after his team Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 26 May to win the Pepsi Indian Premier League 2013. He furher retired from Twenty20 cricket and limited-overs cricket, after playing the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 in Sept–Oct 2013 in India the Mumbai Indians
On 10th October 2013 Sachin Tendulkar announced that he would retire from all cricket after playing the test series against West Indies in November. As per Tendulkar's request BCCI confirmed that the two matches will be played at Kolkata and Mumbai, making the farewell happen at his home ground. Sachin scored 74 runs in his last test innings against West Indies, failing short by 79 runs to complete 16,000 runs in test cricket. India Today organised a day-long Salaam Sachin Conclave in which various national and international figures from cricket, politics, Bollywood and other fields spoke about him. The Cricket Association of Bengal and the Mumbai Cricket Association organised events to mark his retirement from the sport
