Sachin
Tendulkar's Nomination to Rajya Sabha
Sachin Tendulkar was nominated to the Rajya Sabha which
was prosed by the President of India and in April 2012 Tendulkar accepted the Rajya Sabha
nomination. Sachin Tendulkar became the first active sportsperson and cricketer
to have been nominated. A few former cricketers were surprised on hearing this
and did not shy from expressing it.
On 2nd May, Sachin Tendulkar was elected to seat number
103 in the Rajya Sabha and took the oath on 4 June. Sachin refused to take the
bungalow allotted to him in New Delhi stating it as "waste of tax payer's
money". Sachin continues to reside in Mumbai.
Social
work
Sachin
Tendulkar has not limited his greatness to cricket alone. He has also shown the
path of kindness and care to be the greatest of virtues that anyone could
practice. Tendulkar sponsors 200 underprivileged children every year through
Apnalaya, a Mumbai-based NGO associated with his mother-in-law, Annabel Mehta.
Sachin
has crusaded for Cancer foundation against cancer. It was not a surprise when
Sachin's Tweet raised
10.25 million for the foundation. Sachin Tendulkar
spent nine hours on the 12-hour Coca-Cola-NDTV Support My School telethon on 18
September 2011 that helped raise
7 crore –
20 million more than the target – for
from the creation of basic facilities, particularly toilets for girl students,
in 140 government schools across the country.

Retirement
Sheer love for the game coupled with hard work and
determination kept the "God of cricket" going for over 2 decades, but
age catches up with everyone, no one can outlive nature, hence following poor
performance in the 2012 series against England, Sachin Tendulkar announced his
retirement from One Day Internationals on 23 December 2012, however he
mentioned that he will be available for Test cricket. It was something that
most people hoped not to happen and Anil Kumble said it would be "tough to
see an Indian (ODI) team list without Tendulkar's name in it", and Javagal
Srinath mentioned that Tendulkar "changed the way ODIs were played right
from the time he opened in New Zealand in 1994". Former Indian Captain
Sourav Ganguly even mentioned that Sachin could have played the up-coming series against Pakistan.
After playing his lone Twenty 20 International in
2006 against South Africa, Sachin Tendulkar announced that he would not play
T20 Internationals any more. Later he announced his retirement from IPL after
his team Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs at the
Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 26 May to win the Pepsi Indian Premier League
2013. He furher retired from Twenty20 cricket and limited-overs cricket,
after playing the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 in Sept–Oct 2013 in India
the Mumbai Indians
On 10th October 2013 Sachin Tendulkar announced that he
would retire from all cricket after playing the test series against West Indies
in November. As per Tendulkar's request BCCI confirmed that the two matches
will be played at Kolkata and Mumbai, making the farewell happen at his home
ground. Sachin scored 74 runs in his last test innings against West Indies,
failing short by 79 runs to complete 16,000 runs in test cricket. India Today
organised a day-long Salaam Sachin Conclave in which various national and
international figures from cricket, politics, Bollywood and other fields spoke
about him. The Cricket Association of Bengal and the Mumbai
Cricket Association organised events to mark his retirement from the sport
